There are several things you can do for your home AC system to keep your air conditioner functioning smoothly. The easiest of these is cleaning your filter coils. Dust in the air can quickly clog your filters, obstructing the flow of air and reducing efficiency. If your system has a reusable filter, then cleaning it should be enough. If not, get the filter replaced. Ideally, your filters should be replaced at least once a month during cooling season. Factor in extra cleaning of your filters if your air conditioner is constantly used, or if you have pets at home. The outside compressor can be hosed down to keep it clean. Make sure that all hose connections are checked for leaks, and clean air vents and registers frequently. Also, clean your outdoor condenser coils by removing debris and dirt, and keep plants at least 2 feet away. You can also clean the fins on your system's condenser and evaporator coils using a fin comb. This helps bend the fins back to their original position.
